Memphis woman suffers fatal injury after being hit by a truck

According to The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis woman suffered fatal injuries on January 21st, 2014 after being run over by a man driving a tractor-trailer truck in Germantown, Tennessee. The accident occurred near the intersection of Poplar and Kirby. While attempting to make a wide right turn onto Poplar Avenue, the truck driver struck the woman who was simultaneously attempting to cross at the crosswalk. After suffering major injuries resulting from the accident, the victim unfortunately died at the scene.
Due to the large size of most commercial trucks, people can be seriously injured when involved in collisions with these types of vehicles. When a large commercial truck is making a wide turn it becomes difficult for the driver to see pedestrians in the cross walk and accidents such as this one can occur. Unfortunately, the woman involved in this accident suffered fatal injuries and this will affect her family forever. Trucking accident cases are often complex due to the specific rules that commercial truck companies must follow known as Federal Motor Safety Regulations. For example, truck drivers are limited to a certain number of on-duty hours per day and must keep detailed logs of where they travel. Trucking companies are responsible for enforcing all of these regulations. At Nahon, Saharovich & Trotz, our experienced attorneys have an in-depth knowledge of these regulations and how they are commonly broken.
